Midfielder's Thrashings Expose a League's Flaw

Submitted by marcus, Feb 27, 2007 17:21

The league flaw Gardner accurately pinpoints is the English preference for thuggery v. PLAYING FOOTBALL. That's why there are no good English playmakers, no English artristry or flair. The fact that it all comes down to "well it wasn't intentional" pretty much says it all. The fact of the matter is that the English game ENCOURAGES bad challenges and recklessness. It is a natural, inevitable part of the English game -- it's what the English game is all about. Players aren't necessarily to blame -- it's the entire culture that encourages them to play this way from the beginning. The only reason the Prem is worth watching is due to the influx of foreigners like Mendes who are interested in actually PLAYING FOOTBALL.
