Of course the League did NOT prevent WWII, but actually helped produce WWII by letting some innocents believe that the League could do something worthwhile.
In the case of the UN, it works very strongly to aid the enemies of peace because it is dominated by just those enemies. In addition, as in the case of the League, it fosters hope in the naive and just plain stupid.
It would be a disaster to send anybody from the UN to Gaza. Would such a group from the UN prevent more arms from reaching the terrorists? NO.
Would they prevent rockets from being fired into Israeli cities? No. When Hamas is ready to fire 10000 rockets into Israel, they wil invent some phony pretext to attack Israel just as they have in the past.
And are these rockets aimed at kindergartens and women and children. YES. Like the Nazi terrorist rockets launched in Britain during WWII, the Nazis had essentially no idea where they would strike.
America's response to the Nazi rockets: Bring the leader of the Nazi rocket program, Werrner Von Braun, the murderer of thousands of slave laborers, into the US to lead our rocket program.
Conclusion: Can Israel trust the US? More than almost any other country - but very little.
