Closing a loophole -- especially such a large loophole -- is different from a tax increase. The Governor is attempting to bring a measure of fairness back into the state's tax policy, which in recent years has emphasized regressive taxes (sales taxes and the like) levied upon the powerless . I commend him Governor Spitzer for his courage and high principle.
