I don't think the people criticizing Al Gore's electricity usage have ever heard of 'green tags' or understand how they work. Green tags are credits that can be purchased on the open-market to subsidize the extra cost involved in the production of X kilowatt-hours of electricity using renewable energy sources (i.e. wind and solar mostly). You buy them by the kilowatt hour. In effect, since the whole electrical grid is linked, anyone who buys green tags is buying renewable energy for themselves. I believe this is what Al Gore has done for his home...
