Mimi Sheraton is right. If I opened Rocco's, Tuscan, the Banana & Caviar place, English is Italian, and Kobe Club.......do you think I should be allowed to open more restaurants? The next places Chodorow talks of opening....Wild Salmon & the Spotted Dick already sound like losers.

I would think Bruni is a more qualified Restaurant Critic than Chodorow is a restaurant owner. China Grill (which used to be one of my favorites) has been resting on it's laurels for years.

A critic should be a great writer who is a foodie. That means knows good food and eats pretty much everything to be able to evaluate what's good vs what's not. On that basis Bruni qualifies. He is no Ruth Reichl. He seems to look at the negatives more than the positives. I totally disagree with some of his reviews (Morimoto & Mas come to mind). He loves certain restaurants I just don't get (The Modern's Bar Room, BLT Fish, Buddokhan, Cafe D'Alsace ) He doesn't love restaurants he should (The Modern's Dining Room, Mas etc>)

His unpredictability makes him interesting, as well as maddening.
