There is a case to be made that through common usage of a word, the negative symbology attached to it declines. I, for one, feel that using the "n-word" as a term of endearment is an empowering move: by stripping it of its negative connotations and reversing its perceived meaning, you are in effect making a joke out of those who still use it as a racial slur. And those who still use it in that context are indeed fools who deserve to be belittled.
