Mystery Surrounds Kerry's Navy Discharge

Submitted by christine foulke, Nov 11, 2006 21:14

I think it is tragic that as citizens of what we consider the greatest country in the world, we routinely ignore the public exposure of questionable behavior and even the criminal activities of the Legislative Branch of the government. I would think it only prudent that everybody in public service would be required to undergo continual investigation and that the results of these investigations be made public on a government website to which any citizen could have access at any time that they wish. When criminal investigation is only conducted for political expediency and the Teddy Kennedys of the government can walk away from, at best, negligent homicide, I suspect that this may be just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to understanding why so many people consider politicians to be even less honorable the criminals. I am unaware of even one rapest, thief, killer, etc. sucessfully standing in front of a jury and saying that because it is their destiny to be in that position, they can do whatever they like and in the interest of their country, they should be above all laws. Yet time and again questional and criminal behavior is ignored and covered up when political figures do the same thing. It is beyond excuse when a widowed grandmother confides that she loves her country but fears her government. Accountability is demanded of everyday citizens, why shouldn't politicans be held to the same or higher standards? During Senate Investigations each person questioned is expected to tell the truth and can be prosecuted if they lie. Just one week of political adds make it shamefully clear they consider it their duty to lie, slander and disparage any one they choose when ever they choose. We are a decent, honest, God fearing country. Each one of us thinks, "Why bother, what will any body care if I call, write or email congress or the newspapers, or the TV stations about this?" And the answere is probably nothing if only one person does this. But if that one person think's "What the heck, it bugs me too. And at worst, I will be wasting my time. At best, maybe some others will do it too. At least I've tried." If one million try, something will change for the better. And every little bit helps. From the beginning we have fought and died for this country. More than we will ever know have given their lives for this country. They have given their lives so that we can have a country that supports and upholds the best ideals of human kind. They gave their blood, can we give a few minutes of our time? At least for a moment let us consider that words of honor and truth sound good to our ears when we hear them. They only create good in our lives when we live them. "Consider not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". The opperative word here is DO. Until we try, we can't do. God bless you all.
