in response to reader comment: 48 Million Uninsured?

Submitted by Jim, Mar 5, 2007 21:38

You hear this from the liberals all the time! We all know it is not accurate because:

1. Emergency rooms are always available and are being used profusely by illegal aliens and the homeless. Many homeless prefer to be homeless, regardless of your beliefs, because they have no responsibility or bosses. But, no one goes without medical treatment if they want it! Insured or not!

2. Many younger people feel "bullet-proof" and have the "it happens to someone else" view, so they don't buy insurance. They don't think they will need it and can save the money.

3. In any case, the hospitals can not turn down anyone who claims to be indigent. Hospitals charge inflated prices to those who have insurance to make up for all the "freebies" they have to give away to the illegal aliens, the poor, the homeless, and the employed youngsters who don't buy insurance.

4. Maybe you've heard your local politicians running for city council, the school board or mayor of your community pledge, if elected, to see to it the Federal Government pays its' share of expenses. Well, don't forget any money the Feds chip-in is money your taxes paid for. No government I know of has any money to spend if the citizens don't have to pay it in to them.

5. And don't forget the huge $500-$600 million dollar fines hospitals like HCA have had to pay the Feds for 'inaccurate' and 'excessive' charges they billed to Medicare. No wonder many ER's have closed.
