Your editorial overlooks the fact that many voters backed Hevesi for comptroller despite the scandal precisely because of the expectation that impeachment or his resignation would deal with the problem. The result would be a replacement likely to be far more qualified than Mr. Callaghan. You underestimate the sophistication of NY voters in seeing beyond election day.
