Hevesi's Acquittal

Submitted by Elia, Nov 13, 2006 09:26

The New York voters did not vote to acquit Hevesi. What occurred was that with all of the press coverage detailing what would happen if Hevesi was removed from office and the expectation that that would occur - accompanied , of course, by the Democrat wave on election day - voters decided that they would rather have a new Comptroller appointed by the new Democratic governor. The Democrats I know (in Westchester) voted for him with their teeth gritted, counting on the Senate to remove him from office, preferring that procedure to putting a Republican in the watchdog seat overseeing the Democratic administration. Any other interpretation is a flight of fancy caused by an over-active imagination.
