they must have missed the honest version of that American history. Like the story that Pearl Harbor was "unprovoked." Just an example.
Just because your read something in a book or read it here, does not "make it so." Do some research on your own, and if your really interested, ask for the source of the information. There is more than one version of the story. Proof privides good insight should there be a bigoted or biased views. The following is a start. The 37th Texas link in the 2d link below provides a whole bunch of interesting related information.
As most educated folks would agree, "Slavery was a tertiary cause of secession and of the war. But, there are more causes and contradictions. Share these: http://www.petersburgexpress.com/Causes.html
One of my Black friend's heroes here in Virginia is Nathan Bedford Forest. Why! -- some would ask? The answer is my Black friend is well read in American history and knows who in history to trust. Also, the Fort Pillow propaganda was just that!
"The Confederate soldiers were our kinfolk and our heroes. We testify to the country our enduring fidelity to their memory. We commemorate their valor and devotion. There were some things that were not surrendered at Appomatox. We did not surrender our rights in history, nor was it one of the conditions of surrender that unfriendly lips should be suffered to tell the story of that war or that unfriendly hands should write the epitaphs of our Confederate dead. We have a right to teach our children the true history of that war, the causes that led up to it, and the principles involved."
Senator Edward W. Carmack, 1903
