Back in the day, feminism was about equality for both genders. The problem is that these classical feminists were so successful in fighting for this ideal that now feminism has a bit of a problem: they are pushing themselves right out of a job since now (almost) everyone accepts that men and women are supposed to be equal.
So now modern feminists push for special treatment at every turn to make up for lost time I guess (the author of this piece seems to think that it is ok for women/girls to be "out ahead" for awhile for instance). So while billions of dollars are now spent researching woman-specific diseases, woman-specific problems, and woman-specific issues, men are being left behind. The worst thing is most men are too "chivalrous" to complain and they don't even realize it is happening. And many "modern feminists" are happy to continue to pound the same old tired statements that there is some sort of glass ceiling and that they don't get equal pay for equal work (even though studies have shown that men actually work longer hours for what amounts to be less pay per hour!). And even though women live longer, these same modern feminists are more then willing to say they aren't getting fair medical treatment, but then trumpet about how bad breast cancer is and that the research needs special consideration (again, even though prostate cancer effects just as many men and every cross-gender cancer is more prevalent in men then in women). Even heart disease, which is well-known to be more deadly to men then to women has been hijacked. Don't get me wrong: I'm all for curing diseases regardless of gender, but come on, enough with the special treatment all ready.
Personally, I think of myself as a classical feminist/masculinist: men and women are supposed to be equal. Special treatment is not equality, and the quest for that special treatment disrespects every woman (and man) that has ever fought for gender equality in the past.
