The biggest problem the Democrats have with Iraq is the need to exaggerate the negative in order to win primaries controlled by dovish voters. After the deciding primaries this November the election is still a year away. If the tide turns for the better then a shift to a more hawkish postion will be necessary. This will require skillful rhetoric and some level of double-talk. Hillary Clinton seems to lack the requisite oratorical skills of her spouse. Obama also seems unlikely to be able make an effective shift to the right. An outsider and unknown such as Bill Richardson might be the only answer.
