Ms. De Rosa, given that we live in an urban environent, we don't have the luxury of opening our back doors and allowing are children to explore freely with the other neighborhood children. A pre-primary school, especially one as outstanding as West Side Montessori (Dr. Barron- Head of School), provides that opportunity for young chidlren to explore their environment in a safe and stimulating manner. The classrooms are set-up with interesting activities which faciliate learning and rich discussion. The teachers, who thoughtfully prepare this environment, are educated in early childhood and thus know how to interact with children in a positve and meaningful way. If you have not had the chance to observe there- I recommend that you do. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised by what you see!
