Pro Sports Far From Easy in New Orleans

Nothing will happen to the Saints this month, but there is no doubt that they will be gone when their contract with the state expires in 2010. The fact is that NOLA's business climate has been in a decline the past 40 years and Katrina only accelerated it. SA's economy is going in the opposite direction with the opening of their Toyota plant, AT&T's expansion, Valero's record profits, and the success of the other Fortune 500 and entrepreneurial companies in town.

The sympathy card is still in NOLA's hand right now, but it will not work in 2010 when some tough decisions have to be made. I am not saying that the Saints will go to SA,;the fact is that they will probably end up in LA if there is not a franchise there by 2010. Regardless, people are kidding themselves if they think NOLA is going to be able to sustain an NFL or NBA team long-term with the pathetic business climate they have fostered over the years.
