King of the Tenors

Mr. Nordlinger consistently gives the best, most objective reviews in the NY media. I was in complete agreement with his review of Joyce DiDonato last week, surely destined to be one of the great mezzos of our time. And his review of the Florez Carnegie Hall recital is objective and fair. The unpleasant notes he criticizes were indeed there, but certainly not important in the context of all the wonderful singing he did. I too was a little put off by the circus atmosphere of the crowd, but they had a great time. And isn't that what it's all about? The coloratura, phrasing and personality all make Mr. Florez unique. I just heard a concert with orchestra given by Mr. Florez and the mezzo Daniella Barcellona in Paris a few weeks ago. It was truly magnificent. And the crowd had a great time without all the flashbulbs and yelling!
