Want Kangaroo Sausages? Here's Your Guide, Digger

Australian food is a multicultural mixture, from traditional British roots to many cultural blends. The range of food in Australia is extensive, and may restaurants abound, from Continental, Italian and Asians styles. However, kangaroo meat here is considered cheap, pet food mainly. These animals are indigenous, and their numbers are decreasing due to our drought, global warming and the commercial killing machine that continues to terrify and slaughter these gentle animals relentlessly. These licensed 'processors' come out at night with their guns and make a bloodbath of our national iconic wildlife. Kangaroos take years to grow to full weight, and their young have a long period of dependancy. There is actually very little human-quality meat on them. Joeys have no commercial value and are killed by bashing, or they sent away to die slowly.

This industry is not humane, sustainable or ethical. Many animal welfare groups are trying to stop this trade, however our Federal government allows States to 'manage' their own kangaroo populations- which can mean lethal management. These hapless creatures do not need management - they have live in our country for thousands of years! They need protection, and have indigenous rights to survive.

Kangaroo meat is sent to Asia and Russia. It is not just supporting local communities.

Please do not support this industry by eating kangaroo meat or buying their fur. This is a shameful way to treat our wildlife, and they are worth fighting for to protect.
