Freedom from slavery and the right to vote do not equate to entering the country without permission, staying longer than permitted, or working without permission. Slavery was abolished. The right to vote was granted. Eventually, society got it right. Rewarding illegal activities cannot compare to either. Let's not pretend that slavery and the denial of universal sufferage are in the same category of sins as protecting society from illegal aliens.
