‘Screaming and Crying' Greet Arab School Plan

Submitted by Jeebs, Mar 15, 2007 18:10

The tactics used by department and school officials in order to keep opposition to their unilateral plans for the P.S. 282 off-balance is well near fascist in nature. I have vigorously supported the Bloomberg administration for two terms but to experience the Putin-esque willful ignorance at parents questions as to why they were not notified in a more timely and responsible manner at last week's PTA meeting with "officials" (I use quotations here because these so-called officials had no useful information to give parents) is simply disgraceful and reveals the dark-side of the administration. Most of the families who send their children to the school are minorities who come from beyond Park Slope's borders- it is an oasis of education for them, an opportunity they treasure, unlike the affluent parents within Park Slope who spurn it by lying about where they reside in order to get zoned for more the prestigious P.S. 321 (which they have made overcrowded and hence not a target for any addition) or simply pay-out for private school. Shame on Bloomberg and Joel Klein, the department and the principal! They have lied to the press as well, stating that under-performing schools were targeted for expansion- simply a bald-faced lie since 282 is NOT under-performing!!! The media has done little to get the facts and present them to the public as well. Help P.S. 282!!!
