Doctoroff Warns of Problems With East Side Subway Plan

Submitted by Mike, Mar 16, 2007 10:25

Your article totally misses the upshot of Doctoroff's comments and presentation - you are trying to couch it here as some kind of controversy over whether the 2nd Ave Subway will be funded. I think you totally missed what Doctoroff was getting at with his presentation -- not that these types of projects are in danger of not being funded, but rather that they must be funded for the future of our city, and it is incumbent on the city now to find new and innovative ways of funding these projects. As past generations did what was necessary to pay for things like the grid street system, Central Park and the subway system, we have to do it again. And such innovative new ways of raising money will probably be in the long-term plan the mayor will be unveiling. I don't think Doctoroff was seriously questioning WHETHER these projects will get funded, but HOW they will.
