I enjoyed reading the eloquently written tribute to St. Brigid's Irish Famine Church by David Lowe.
Ironically, there is a movement within the Irish Church to beatify the Great Hunger martyrs who clung to their faith, which if they had only denied, would have saved their earthly lives.
Yet a church built by these survivors of coffin ships are having their house of worship torn down for its real estate equity by the Diocese of New York. The same diocese that had to recently dismiss Fr. Eugene Clark, in charge of its financial records, for paying his secretary a salary of over $100,000 annually, while trysting in the Hamptons.
Money that could be better spent to preserve a New York City religious treasure.
