As a pilot for a major airline, I have to agree with the crew on this issue. We are sometimes faced with making split second decisions about behaviors of passengers. Many of us knew crew that were killed in the September 11th attacks, and they are still very vivid to every pilot that sits in the cockpit silently hoping that there arent any problems in the cabin. The passengers alerted the crew to behavior that made them uncomfortable, and the crew responded how we all have been trained, to observe and call in professional law enforcement for a full assessment. It is a sad fact that people of Middle Eastern descent are unfairly targeted for additional security procedures, but it is also true that the 9-11 attackers were from the Middle East, and caution must be observed. As a pilot, I would rather have an abundance for security than a lack of it because of fears of not being politically correct.
