My granparents came at the turn of the last century and never looked back . To them home, family and Church were the essentials to sustain life. Yes, life was sometimes bitter and cruel but always washed with laughter and the stabilizing Sunday Mass. The Church was a constantly sought after sanctuary to provide nourishment and perspective. To paraphrase others "we had the priests and the cops, we didn't need psychiatriists and lawyers"

To this day out family values the same things. To see St. Brigid's laid to waste for a few hundred thousand dollars while millions are spent daily on unsolvable problems and and the ubiquitous "settlements" is a torture. Know that St. Bridget's is a heart in New York and once gone so has a piece of being Catholc in New York. and Irish in the world.
