Don't Act, Don't Tell

When it comes to gays in the military, I think that it would be good to know who saves your life especially in Iraq. That comment is coming from a true soldier. It was november of 2004, and i was assigned to a unit in Iraq. We got into a fire fight in Baghdad during Ramadhan, and I kindly let everyone in my crew kow about me. It was more of a life or death situation, so if i just so happen to have died that day, they would know that a homosexual took his life own life to save mine. At the same time, the army would call that selfless service, and doing what is right for the country. By knowing that, my crew put the same amount of trust in me, and didn't look at me any different. I have been in the military for 7 years to the day, and i have had no problems doing anything that the next heterosexual. I have faught side by side with what you call the best of the best. As well as helping to train the worst. Its all on how you look at the military. Some of the people that I knew in the military did their jobs to the fullest, but got discharged because they were openly gay on "myspace". Which doesn't violate that don't ask policy but the issue was pushed too far. Others were diecharged because they violated to don't ask policy by confessing their sexuality. People are constantly being harrassed by multiday room inspections in the barracks, keyed up cars, and other offensive materials. I am not an activist but i can only tell what I see, and what I don't like. As far as marriages, its silly that we still ban that. I thought that this was a free country? The word free means alot to a homosexual, as well a every other man or woman. Freedom of speech, freedom to vote. freedom to live wherever, and date whomever. When it comes to gays having kids, that is one of the possibilities in life. Each child is entitled to have that option if they choose it. Although I was raised by one parent, I still want to raise a child whether I am gay or not. There are families out there now that had a god husband/wife marriage. Had kids together, and husband realizes that he is most happiest with another man. So he divorces his wife to be with a man, but also wants to be around his child(ren). Therefore exposing his Child(ren) to be around his significant other. Which is very much equivalent to gay marriages, and gay adoption. Think about it.
