Your comments equating the South with Cossacks and other infamous anti-Semites is unfair and totally false. Yes, anti-Semitism has occured in the South but never on a scale comparable to that in Europe or the "enlightened north". In our state, Jewish people may be realtively few in number but they have always been an intergral and significant part of our culture and community. For those such as your editioral writer who are ignorant of history, the first two Jewish members of Congress were senators from the Antebellum South. Montgomery, Alabama had Jewish mayors over a century before New York had its first one. In the old and the new South for that matter, Jews were generally accepted in most communities as fellow citizens and viewed as important contributors to society.
