Edwards and Obama Battle Against Wal-Mart

Submitted by B. Cayen, Nov 15, 2006 19:43

I started at Wal-Mart in 1997. I had just dropped out of college, and was badly in need of work. I knew by the end of my first shift I wanted to make a *career* at this place. The hours are not great (I hated working until 11pm) and I started at just about minimum wage. I heard all the talk over the years of how evil the company I work for is, and I could never understand it. If I need a day off, they give it to me. If I think I need a raise, they look at my work history and talk to me about it. Whenever a position opens up in the company, no matter what qualifications I may or may not have, I am able to apply for it....and might get it! I finished high school. That's it. And I'm a manager of a Wal-Mart in Canada. The only qualification for my job was 2 years of retail experience - they teach you everything else. My lack of college education did not disqualify me in any way shape or form. What other company in the world will do that? You can't even get a job at some places without them wanting you to have finished college, have 5 years experience in that field, and be willing to sign the contract in blood. I *love* my job, and I'd rather burn down the store I work in then see some union get their claws into my associates.
