New Brooklyn School To Offer Middle East Studies
in response to reader comment: The PS282 school community was not involved in this decision

Submitted by Kimtoya Williams, Mar 21, 2007 10:51

I am a Muslim-American and mother of both a 4th grader and a Kindergarten student at PS282. Although I think it is a great idea to have a public school that will include Arabic studies and Middle-Eastern culture, I am disappointed that the insistence to place this new academy at PS282 will threaten the services and quality-of-education currently in place. We must all remember, when discussing this new school, that our concerns are NOT with the religion of Islam, nor Middle-Eastern culture. Our concerns involve the lack of involvement parents have had in this process. Our concerns are about our children's safety as older kids are introduced into the environment. Our concerns are also to make certain, our children lose ZERO programs that have made PS282 so successful. Thank you, Kimtoya Williams
