Charles Busch's Antebellum Alter Ego

An unfair and perhaps ill thought through piece of criticism.

By sheer fluke I ended up seeing this play twice on two consequetive nights. There is indeed a great change between the beat of the first and second Acts. The first Act, light and humourous, the second heavy on sentiment. Here I think Mr Busch captured the essence of human life. For in just the flick of a moment, lifes events can turn and have far reaching affects on many. For these poor actors, they went from the sublime bliss of back-stabbing comedy, to the magnets which attracted a President to his fateful last day.

For me, it was a story of difference, and one that concentrated on tragic events on a small band of not too talented performers.

I would add that on both evenings I thoroughly enjoyed the play, and found the quality of acting rather high by all. But then, I'm just a simple sailor by occupation and possibly easily pleased. If that's so, thank God for my profession!
