Avoiding 9/11 is not in and of itself, a virtue. It might work here; but frankly, I suspect the motives of those who see it necessarily as a virtue; especially those who refer to "jingonistic call to arms" in repsonse to 9/11. When isn't patriotism or defense of America not jingonistic? I mean, they flew airplanes into our buildings, I don't think flag waving or a call to arms is a necessarily unreasonable response.
I've got nothing against movies like this, they're swell; but let's face it, it basically endorses the sense of narcissim of the era that was ended by 9/11. I'd like the arts to take on the selflessness, the sacrifice, the moral absolutes that we saw 9/11.
Where's that?
