Why Baseball Is Singled Out on Drugs

You really had me enthused for a while there. So, the fat white losers who populate the stands and the couches and the bars around the country are ultimately the reason black athletes take steroids? Give me some room for common sense, please. You write a very tasty piece, heating up with the sweet smell of truth, then you pepper our palettes so much with your "visceral hatred" that you ultimately gain only the audience you seek to absolve. I totally agree that the average fan cannot relate to or imagine himself as the Hollywood/Wrestler/Football star stereo(id)type. However, as you suggest, most of us can at least physically relate to baseball, golf, and to stretch our "average" imaginations a bit further, we may cast ourselves as soccer, racing, or even boxing participants. The "codes" for discomfort with baggy pants and end-zone celebrations has much more to do with in-your-face disrespect than for any color barriers or cultural differences or sartorial correctness. And if a culture defines itself by disrespecting another then the word, "culture," is just as out of place as its definition. Just ask someone for an honest answer instead of observing with a predetermined interpretation in mind.
