in response to reader comment: Didion review

Submitted by LBK, Mar 26, 2007 21:28

Apart from the fact that Didion's world is not your world - so what. Would the Year of Magical Thinking be improved if JD and JD spent more time at Burger King. If anything, Didion's experience suggests that none of the trappings of professional or social success can insulate one from such horror. I thought the writing was compelling though slipping into the melodramatic from time to time. However the thought of Vanessa Redgrave presenting this material transmutes what I took to be a brilliant cathartic memoir into yet another entertainment vehicle - can the musical be far behind?
