It seems to me that the time has come for the US to get out of, not further into, the Arab-Israeli imbroglio. By that I mean totally out. We should eliminate military support, subsidies, and the provision of our usually misguided advice to both parties.. A fairly large segment of American opinion, both elite and popular, seems to think that this is the path we should follow in Iraq and I don't see why we shouldn't follow it in this other Middle Eastern mess too. Your editorial praises one dead Middle Eastern terrorist turned government leader(Shamir) while excoriating another(Arafat). This is an example of how bankrupt the entire discussion has become. The internecine conflicts of the area-Shia vs Sunni, Zionist vs Arab nationalist et.al.are apparently beyond our ability to comprehend, much less to settle. Time to go.
