Wasn't the AMT supposed to impose a tax on millionaires who were not "paying " their fair share, not to be used to "backdoor a flat tax on the American middle class", and because we are talking about New York, $75,000/ per year may not even get you to middle class if your rent or co op maintenance is around 2K a month and you have kids.I know it took about 90 years to remove an excise tax on our phone service which was supposed to pay for the Spanish American War. I guess the Congress is just being a wee little bit proactive in fixing the AMT.How about a flat tax based on the market value of property and assets or the leasing of such? This tax would be evenly distributed amoungst the rich and middle class based on consumption and their holdings and the have nots wouldn't be taxed at all.
