Only a Matter of Time ...

Thomas Cushman's reasoned estimate of the threat from Iran is one of the best and sanest's statements yet published.

His explanation of the failure to act to stop Hitler is true to history and logic but, I would go farther and add our own Frankin D. Roosevelt to the list of those who fiddled while Europe prepared to burn.

Having lived through the period and in a family where members were required to read one newpaper cover to cover every day, it was apparent at the time that Mr. Roosevelt was genunely afraid of a backlash from gentile voters, if he intervened; so he did nothing in the early stages that might have changed the course of history.

It is well established that FDR plotted for three years to get into the war without seeming to have made the decision himself, but by then it was 1938. Looking the newsreel camera squarely in the eye, and for political gain, he promised American mothers never to send their sons to fight in a foreign war. After that, he was pretty well boxed in and impotent. His statement was wholly political, but it imperiled the nation.

If it is true, as some evidence suggests, that FDR finally became so desperate that he stacked our ships up at Pearl Harbor to offer the Japanese a target .as terrible as it was, FDR finally acted. He had Congress slip in a war against Germany, while declaring to deal with Japan. At least, we were finally acting, years too late.

So, indeed; Mr. Cushman recites a real and true parallel to the Iran debacle.

President Clinton watched with detachment as the whole MidEast prepared to explode, and did nothing. President Bush at least, recognized the danger and acted,but must contended with the know-nothings who believe your can hide from and ignore the murderous enemy in Iran,Iraq, Palestine,etc.

Those seeking partnership with the enemy then, were called Fifth Columnists, cooperating with the enemy to hinder or bring down their own country. Saying nice things about murderers and terrorists and imparting to them good chacteristc they never held, as in the case of Iran's puppet president.. Attempting to tie the hands of our military, to get millions of us killed from Iranian nukes...all just so they advance the possibility of electing a Democrat President in 2008.

God help us all!

But it is part of the anology that the present surrender-monkeys would have us do nothing in return for one more day of a false peace. The vote to shut down funds to our brave armed forces was beyond disgraceful and traitorous and clearly shows that there is a Fifth Column at work in this war,too. It is headed by Congressional Democrats and a few traitorous Republicans. They are more dangerous than all the enemies we face.

It is time for the President to act boldly. If he does not, then we are truly doomed and the least of it will be for us to die, or to loose our country to the Imans in Tehran.

I hope he moves on two fronts;

(1) I would appoint a Blue Ribbon Commisson to investigate what the Democrat treachery in Congress is doing to impede the country's war effort. Call the surrender monkeys before the Commission and defend, if they can, the treachery reported daily. Call the twisted elements of the media, from the New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Time, Newsweek et all to account for breaking security laws of the country by printing our national security secrets. Bring to the fresh air, the unholy alliance between much of the media and the failed Democrat Party.

(2) Execute, with Britain and Israel, a sustained air attack, 24 hours sounds right, against anything that resembles an Iranian nuclear plant or lab. Level to the ground as much of Tehran as possible. Give notice to civilians to get out of Tehran and stay out for 30 days. If they choose to stay, so be it. Eliminate all known government buildings Take out all electric power stations. Continue daily bombng raids, with or without nuclear war heads, until the people remove the dastardly regime that has caused so much anguish and death in the world.

It is the least we can do.
