The Education of Eliot Spitzer

If the outlines of the budget hold true -- the Governor folded too soon. The time to undertake fixing Albany was right now -- this budget cycle. Sure the Governor may have been battered and bruised by the advertising blitz by the medical special interests -- but overall backing for resolve against this still really had legs.

Your editorial criticizses Spitzer for the fact that he ran a campaign that did not spell out specifics about how he wanted to fix Albany -- and that's true. Tom Suozzi ran that campaign -- which would have had resonance had he not run against Spitzer. When Spitzer became Governor -- it appeared that he morphed into Tom Suozzi on steroids. He should have held the course -- on medicaid, on education funding and accountability, and on tuition tax credits -- which is all about shifting the priorities away from those who provide services (medical, educational, etc...) to those who consume those services (us).

Very disappointing.
