The United States Membership in the United Nations is the last source of legitimacy for this corrupt slow motion lynch mob. This debased International Body, President Franklin Roosevelt's noblest legacy to a grateful Mankind, now consists of the inconvenient political creatures that the World's vicious petty tyrants need consigned to a sumptuous exile. Some politicians cannot be murdered just yet, and others have the potential to acquire a constituency. So they are sent to live well in New York while learning the jargon and protocoles of Turtle Bay. Naturally, they employ the political technique found in their native lands, for they know none other.

Former President Clinton famously regretted that his term of office included no splendid war that would have burnished his fame with the symbols of a glorious victory. He had something better on offer by History, but he muffed it. The Post Cold War Settlement could have linked his name with Canning, Metternich, Wellington, and Talleyrand-Perigord. The United Nations had devolved into a junta useful for managing the Cold War's tensions, while the bidding for the support of the Planet's scheming despots had corrupted its bureaucracy beyond regeneration. A new International Organization for Peace, Justice, and Prosperity was needed, a serious alliance that would enforce its edicts. The opportunity passed by unrecognized and unseized. NATO had lapsed into a jobs program suitable for second rate officers of the Treaty's constituent Armed Forces, great postings among the civilized Europeans who treated them with some contempt and more disdain. The NATO Alliance serves no real strategic need. It is periodically valuable to Mr. Putin as a bogey-man to frighten the Russian looters, and that function is all that remains of its now-deformed international responsibilities.

The UN and NATO must go, so that vital and true International Arrangements can arise. The mere existence of these outgrown and polluted organizations is a blight that inhibits true discussions, which might lead to sensible alliances based upon interests and cemented with defined responsibilities. Else, this World will become unmanagable, while President Roosevelt's vision subsides into a cruel joke.
