It's hard to believe that Mr. Steyn forgot the statements of Iran's president regarding the 'hidden Imam'
where it was said that said 'Imam' would appear when the war between Muslims and 'Kuffars' starts.
It is obvious that Iran's president is trying to goad the West into combat.

I have lost faith in the so-called 'commentators' who are supposed to be so much wiser than the rest
of us - they get jerked by their emotional strings just like anyone else - and like Pavlov's dogs, they
go salivating after Red Herrings.
