Letter to the GOP

Submitted by Alan Wolfson, Nov 16, 2006 19:06

Prof. McWhorter, I am one GOP-leaning independent who appreciates the frankness of your article. Politics is definitely as much perception as substance, and the GOP has done a poor job of cutting out stupid practices like the Maryland fliers. The GOPs time with minorities and blacks in particular will come. The voters just cleaned the GOP's house, while some top Democrats (Reid, Murtha, Hastings, Jefferson) are now under the ethics microscope. As more blacks join the GOP as candidates and as the differences between the parties blur, eventually blacks and minorities will come to understand that the GOP offers a truly big tent, while the Democrats take the black vote for granted (see Cardin vs. Mfume).
