The problem with the "law of necessity" is that it sounds too much like "the ends justify the means."
As Robert Bolt wrote in "A Man For All Seasons," if we "cut down" the laws to get to the Devil, then,
"When the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you -- where would you hide...all the laws being flat? This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast -- man's laws, not God's --and if you cut them down...do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?" ...I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for rmy own safety's sake."
