I think it was irresponsible for her to go against her government's policy and contact the leader of Syria. She should have obviously contacted the prime minister of Israel and confirmed what may have been said or not said before going on to tell the Syrians that Israel was willing to talk about peace (that just makes the U.S. look foolish in the eyes of the world). There was good reasons that Mr. Bush didn't want to contact Syria, and like Mr. Romney said, it sent a mixed message to Syria and the middle east. You cant expect to have a decrease in violence and insurgency in Iraq and/or credability and trust in the middle east as a whole if the over all message your sending is that you dont even have a unanimous front that everyone in government at least respects if not agrees with. To the people that are fighting against coalition forces in Iraq it says that if they just hold out a little longer the U.S. public and opposition forces in the U.S. that dont want troops in Iraq in the first place will win, and the U.S. will pull out eventually and they will be free to do as they please.
