Roosevelt Islanders Seek New Escape Routes

Missed in this discussion is the benefit to bike riders, or those who simply want to walk to midtown occassionally. When I want to bike from Manhatten to Roosevelt Island now, I have to cross the Queensboro bridge to Queens, loop around to the lift bridge and compete with cars most of the way. A bike accessible elevator would open the island to recreational bikers and those who would use a bike to commute to work - thereby decreasingly the load on the overcrowded subways. It would also reduce congestion on all the other accessways. Surely, some way can be found to abut an elevator to the bridge without losing a driving lane.
