Legislators Eye Laws To Protect Students From Sexually Predatory Teachers

Submitted by Debra Lawrence, Apr 9, 2007 14:03

How many teachers are there that slip away from any conviction after sexually molesting a child? I personally know of a situation where a female teacher initiated a sexual relationship with a 15 year old student. That student did not come forward until the age of 19. After being investigated and substantial evidence was found to charge the teacher with either statutory rape or sexual battery by an authority figure, the statute of limitations had run out. Now this teacher is still licensed and not required to register as a sex offender. I wonder just how many educators there are out there that should never be allowed to work with children. We are not doing enough to protect our children in school.
