Roddick's Dedication Gives U.S. the Edge
in response to reader comment: Federer's record in Davis Cup

First I find it find it astonishing that you can declare Roddick most likely won't win another GS because noone can predict the future or what is going to happen. And then wouldn't it make more sense for him to concentrate on singles so he can win another GS since that is what his goals are every year. Second Roddick has been dedicated to Davis Cup since he was 18 and never once declined to play for the team. Even after he won the US Open and was ranked #1 in the world he still played for his country even when the surface was against him. Plus having the higher ranked guys playing brings more publicity. And what does Federer being 25 have to do with anything. Roddick will be 25 in August and is still commited to Davis Cup and played hurt. And Nadal commited and then backed out which I won't even comment on because if he was really hurt why didn't he drop out of Miami. Now I don't condem either one if you don't want to play then don't play but you can't deny Roddick's commitment. He is 22-9 and has played since 2001 through the good times and the bad times so Federer not wanting to carry his team anymore does not get any sympathy from me because Andy would if he had too. His commitment showed when he put Davis Cup, his country, and his teammates above his own singles match in Miami. And Roddick is lucky to have the Bryan Twins but that is because they are just as commited to the Davis Cup as he is. But even if he didn't have them he would still play. He was playing for Davis Cup before Captian Pat brought them on board.

You make great play of Roddick's commitment, and imply that Federer doesn't have it. I wish you'd publish these facts. He... [MORE]
