I was saddened to read last night about Sheldon Meyer's passing. I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to this remarkable editor who encouraged me to write RADIO COMEDY (1979). This was a time when books on popular entertainment were frowned upon by historians and serious publishers alike. He took a chance by surprisingly rewarding me with a contract. These were the days when editors really cared about their authors and Sheldon Meyer was an inspiration to say the least. His role in making popular culture a respectable field of study was monumental and he gave me the motivation to pursue other books in this field. A belated thanks to a wonderful, caring edit---a pioneer who will never be forgotten by all the groundbreaking writers he helped.
