Prosecutors Reverse Course in China Spy Case

Submitted by Charles Liu, Apr 12, 2007 19:56

Dear Mr. Gerstein:

Thank you for bringing some balanced reporting to the Chi Mak case. Ever since the government prosecutor leakded the indictment to well-known China alarmist Bill Gertz, this case has been tainted by Washington Times' sensationalization.

Today Chi Mak continue to be treated unfairly by the media, despite of the facts of government misconduct and the alleged classified material never surfaced had led to withdrawn of the original espionage charges.

A recent Google news tally shows while our media were eager to carry AP's "pasing secrets" reportings, few media outlets had the integrety to carry AP's retraction when it mis-reported the facts of the case:

AP's "passing secrets" story, 800 reprints:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Agent says Chinese-born engineer admitted passing secrets

AP's correction, 8 reprints:

http://news.google.com/news?q=Correction: Military secrets story

Sincerely,
