I know that private equity partnerships enjoy taxation at the capital gains rate (15%) for their carried interests. I do not believe "hedge fund titans" enjoy the same treatment because most of the peformance that gives rise to their "carried interest" is in the form of short term gains taxed at the ordibnary rate of 35%. Maybe the author is referring to other tax advantages enjoyed by hedge fund managers.
