Preservationists Take Aim in Court At Open Records Law

New York will soon be a facade of itself when housing and zoning policies like Bloomberg's have their final impact. It's already happening. Luxury mausoleums are erected with centuries-old beauties are destroyed without the public taking off its iPod headphones. I have started to catalogue all of the destruction -- loss of local business as commercial rents skyrocket to Mars-like prices, as well as the loss of housing space for New Yorkers. THe Upper West Side has lost numerous local businesses -- delis replaced by cell phone stores, affordable restaurants priced out of the neighborhood, and two gorgeous buildings at 72nd and Broadway have been demolished to make room for a glass luxury condo overlooking the subway station. Again this all passed without public input or comment. Walk down 8th Street between Washington Square and 6th Aves. Half the businesses are gone -- but there is a new Dominos.

Bloomberg and his cronies are reaping destruction on the city. The sooner he is out of office, the better. The press has been sleeping all along on this stuff too. Thanks for finally covering some aspect of the architectural and community destruction of the city.
