City Seeks Designers for Park on Governors Island

If all the adults who grew up on Governors Island visited and contributed resources to its present development,it will be a stunning memory come alive. Happily, I was there for longer than most military children, and the freedom it provided me in my childhood shaped my life; it was a small town existence in the middle of the city with occasional visitors such as President Eisenhower. I still wonder if there is a tunnel or passage between Castle Williams and the moat around the Fort! A coalition of G.I. alumni and national entities with the improved access and amenities will transform it into another living U.S. and New York historical site comparable to West Point or Washington D.C., Grand Canyon or Yosemite. Include in those memories military heroes, architectural technology, transportation history, geology , and all the culmulative impact of that environment on the people who grew up there.People will pay to experience the vision of the Statue of Liberty in the summer sunset.; look how much we pay for entrance to fantasy Disneyland! It doesn't matter what kind of ferries they use to get there.
