Oh Lord, here we go...everytime we have a senseless, horrific tragedy like yesterday's, the Left seeks to do something, ANYTHING, to get government, rather than the people, to fix things, usually resulting in nanny-state solutions that ignore the responsibilities and rights of the people. It's the same thing as the Left screaming that a terrorist attack leads the Right to want to take away our liberties with things like the Patriot Act and NSA wiretapping, although there is not one case of a person having their Constitutional rights actually deprived by these acts.

The problem is that the Left is defined by the elevation of compassion over discipline, which leads to the minimizing of the need for personal responsibility that is commensurate with our rights. This inexorably leads to the growth of the nanny-state, which actually hurts society rather than helping it.

Take a look at most of western Europe as a model for what happens when leftism is allowed to run wild. There are many better solutions to explore to minimize the chances of another tragedy like yesterday's, like tough law enforcement, stronger moral values that are expected of people to develop in our homes, schools, and the popular culture, better security in schools and other such places where groups gather, etc....but depriving people of the right to bear arms only guarantees that the innocent can never protect themselves, and directs guns into the hands of only criminals.
