As a current Barnard student, I feel the obligation to respond to this editorial. While I have not personally interacted with President Shapiro, her warmth and strength as a Barnard leader affects me and the larger Barnard community. President Shapiro's involvement in the school was demonstrated clearly through her constant presence throughout the difficult transition time of first year orientation. As a first year student at Barnard, I felt secure entering into the larger community of Columbia University because I knew that President Shapiro and the Barnard Deans would always be there to support their students one hundred percent.
